 "Sandisk ImageMate" 2010-05-05

This was much smaller than expected. Positively miniscule! It is ideal for travel purposes. The stand was for me is useless. I stuck 4 small silicone feet to the base to avoid scratches to its VERY glossy surface. Picks up every finger mark. It is very light and compared to previous models seems flimsey.

Works extremely quickly with Sandisk cards so am well satisfied with performance. If one wants fast downloads to a PC then Sandisk memory cards work faster when coupled with their own card readers. This one is like lightening and for speed alone is well worth the price.

"Works great with Macs too!" 2010-02-19
By T. Stainer (UK)
Previous reviewers have already said it, and said it well, so I'll try not to repeat too much.

Works find on my Mac Book Pro and is extremely fast, certainly the fastest of the card readers I've used.

It's a nice, simple design. As mentioned, it's perhaps a little too glossy and picks up marks and scratches - but that doesn't detract from the performance.

The stand is a bit of a useless gimmick, frankly. You need to hold the reader firmly to insert or remove a card anyway and the stand is not heavy or large enough to provide anything but the most basic stability. Plus, if like me, you carry the reader around with you, the stand gets detached and lost in your bag too easily.

There is a little "transfer" button on top, which claims to launch your "favourite application" for transfer or editing. My laptop automatically detects when I plug in a card/reader anyway and launches my photo applications, so I've no way of checking if this button actually work or not - can't really see the point myself, but perhaps someone else can feedback.

There are a lot of cheap multicard readers out there, but Sandisk really does show why it's worth spending the extra money.

I have finally found really good and fast card reader. It has very good build quality. I would recommend it to a friend.

"Doesn't support 30mb/s cards, tricky to insert SD cards." 2010-01-18
By Ryan Kennett (Plymouth)
Pros:

-It looks pretty stylish

-Reads lots of different formats of card

-Made by Sandisk, who from my experiences are an excellent company in terms of build quality and customer support.

Cons:

-Glossy finish, meaning every time you grip it to insert or remove a card you leave fingerprints all over it.

-The reader often comes off the stand when inserting or removing cards; the magnets aren't quite strong enough, or the mechanism for securing the stand needs changing for another method.

-The SD card slot was incredibly tight on my reader, meaning I had to get it exactly right to get the card in. This was made more difficult by the angle at which the reader sits, and the fact it keeps coming off the stand when trying to get the card in.

-This reader doesn't support the new class 10 SDHC cards, so you will never get 30mb/s out of the 30mb/s cards. I got this information from a senior Sandisk technician after I raised a support call regarding the speeds of my class 10 card. To Sandisk's credit, they offer excellent support, and dealt with my problem excellently. They even offered to exchange the reader for another model (SDDR-199) that does support their 30mb/s cards.

If you only have up to class 6 cards, this reader will work fine, and you will get the maximum speeds achievable with those cards.

In conclusion, if you don't use the ultra fast cards and can get over the niggles with getting the cards in and out (although in my opinion quite a big niggle, as surely getting the cards in and out easily is pretty important for a card reader) then get this. It does certainly look nice, and you can convince visitors that the box of man sized tissues on your desk is really for cleaning the fingerprints off the reader. :)

 "Excellent" 2009-12-04

Delighted with the SanDisk reader. It was very easy to use and, unlike my previous reader, it had no problem reading my 2G photo disc.
