 "Surprised" 2010-06-08
By Jeff (Isle of Wight, UK)
Let me start by saying that I am a video wanabee although I have dabbled with the "art" for over 15 years.

I had just bought my first HD camcorder - a Panasonic HDC-SD60 - with the intention of making an "epic" on my home town and felt that a new tripod, one with a fluid head, would be in order to complement it.

Reading all the AMAZON reviews on tripods and cross checking with other sites and reviews - as one does - I placed my order through AMAZON (cheapest by a mile - sorry kilometre) and a couple of days later a large and heavy parcel arrived on my door.

Now, the reviews remarked on the heavey duty feel and size of this tripod, but it does not sink in until you inspect the beast in the flesh how well built it is. You could moor a battleship from it!

It is big and heavy compared to others in this price range, and it is also well built with solid castings throughout and to me looks fit for the job.

Although there are no instructions the tripod setup is relatively simple. The camera plates, of which there are two, are twice the size as on my present old tripod.

My new Panasonic HD camera looks tiny when mounted on the KONIG but what does that matter when the results are so good.

A friend that has a video company, bought a similar tripod several years ago for nearly £400 and he was well impressed with my KONIG (no smut intended).

The only thing I miss on this tripod is a rising centre column for fine adjustments, which I knew it did not have before I made my purchase.

To sum up. A great bit of kit well worth 5 stars. Good value and build quality for the serious amateur/semi-pro video maker.

It also comes with a free strong carrying bag.

 "Great inexpensive suppport!" 2010-05-07

This is a quality support! My only comment is the head could use a little less tension when panning horizontally but it may loosen up after some use.

Perfect rig if you can't afford Manfrotto.

"Excellent piece of kit for the money" 2010-04-19
By P. Esplin (Tayside, UK)
First of all a big round of applause to NetGadgets for the phenomenal service.

I ordered it after midnight. I got an email confirming the order was received at 2am. It was processed in the morning and dispatched at 3.20pm the same day. I received it just after 11am the next day. A Next Day courier service and yet there was no charge for shipping?!?!?!

Through experience I can compare this to a Velbon 6000 and a Manfrotto 501/503 combo.

The tripod itself is of very high quality, well engineered and the fluid head has a great action.

If you are on a budget you will not be disappointed with this. Ignore the Velbon DV series and go for this if your budget is that tight you are looking at a Velbon!

Yes the Konig is smaller in height and bulk but I reckon its an ideal size/performance ratio for weddings etc. The 2 handles, 2 plates and carrycase are bonuses!

For amateurs & prosumers I give this 5 stars, for the pros who know you get what you pay for I give it 4.5.

The case is very roomy (unlike 501/503) and there is no plastic bits to break (unlike 501/503).

Its not perfect, the weak point is the mid-spreader and I want to try with a Manfrotto ground spreader added to see how it is. It was slipping and splaying a bit on my laminate!

The fastening screw for the release plate would usually be on the right of the camera when in use. This gets in the way of the contour of my FX1 so when tightening it you could scratch the camera. Also when tightening, the camera plate rises on the right so even though the spirit bubble is level the camera could be off.

Thats my niggles but look at the cost! You just cant grumble at this!

 "Konig Video Tripod" 2010-04-19
By Alan Hewitt (Warwickshire, England)
Good Value for money, very well specified and functions well, holds a good sized video camera, comes with two sliding adaptors, the locking mechanisms are very positive. However, could do with spiked feet/semi-spherical, Monfrotto parts are available to adapt, as I have done so.

 "Excellent value, great service" 2010-04-03
By Mr. S. Ross
Tripod arrived very quickly from Netgadgets. Like other reviewers, I find it remarkable value for money. Very solidly built - my camcorder is so much better supported than it had been with my Velbon still camera tripod. Fluid head works well, although mine appears a little overdamped in the horizontal plane at present (leads to slight backlask at end of pan).

I tried the tripod out in good weather but with fairly gusty winds. Results were rock-solid even at longest end of camera's zoom settings.

The complete package really is excellent value for money. This is a really well-built tripod and head for less than half the price of many big-name fluid heads alone!
