 "Manfrotto 055XproB Tripod legs" 2010-01-22
By N. Tyler (Hampshire, UK)
Not the lightest tripod in the world but counter-balanced by a very sturdy feel, even when fully or near-fully extended (and this tripod extends pretty high!).

The quick action leg-locks make extending or collapsing the legs very easy whilst still providing a firm lock. I use mine with a Canon 40D and the tripod is rock-steady.

Overall I would say excellent value for money.

 "Exceeded Expectations!" 2010-01-06
By Ian Linux (Birmingham, UK)
Quality of Build - Out of the box, this tripod exudes quality. It gets even better when you draw out the legs for first inspection and testing. The extendible leg clamps are adjustable, so if they wear a bit over time you can re-tighten them with the attached tool, but clamp assuringly otherwise. The collar through which the head column travels articulates slightly when flipping between horizontal and vertical modes - this is a lovely design feature which seems to obviate wear that could otherwise be the case with a rigid alternative. It's not until the legs (which can be set at varying angles) are fully clamped, along with the head column that one appreciates the sturdiness of this unit; it definitely gains its rigidity as a sum of its parts through effective design, rather than each part being individually robust.

Weight - I've yet to try it with the camera head (322RC2 Heavy Duty Grip Ball still stuck in the Winter's post) and camera, but this tripod is probably just about right. It remains light enough to be easily portable and heavy enough to remain rigid. I'll reserve judgement on heavy wind use though but am mindful of the weight attachment hook present on this model.

Ease of use - I found this unit's functionality fairly self-explanatory. However, moving the camera head column from the vertical to the horizontal via the articulated collar is both smooth and effortless. The collar swivels on its axis freely. A joy to use.

Noted extras - The counterweight hook, integrated spirit level and leg clamp tightening tool have yet to be tested along with the position of the shoulder strap loop, but the foam insulators on two of the tripod legs were very welcome yesterday given the coldness of the metal in this weather (January 5th during the UK's very bad Winter snap)

The only real disappointment for me is that the unit didn't come with a carry case/cover as standard, whilst the delivery from Amazon wasn't packaged to disguise the contents nor prevent the box from being opened. But I think I got everything meant to be included. And be careful not to pinch your finger when changing the head column from the vertical to the horizontal via the switch at the bottom of the column. Although the instructions give you a warning (fairly hidden though), it's natural to hold the free end of the column, which can act to trap a finger against the collar in painful fashion.

So my now redundant trusted 25-year old Revue tripod has been boxed whilst I look forward to many years of use out of this seemingly excellent replacement.

 "Shere quality" 2009-12-19
By Gary Morley (Lancashire, England)
Having invested a good sum of money in a Nikon D90, I felt that it deserved a solid reputable tripod to stand on. I have been using it regularly for several months and am delighted with it. It is of excellent quality, robustly built, and extremely versatile (for landscape or portrait shots) . It's quick to set up / put away and I don't find the weight a problem.

GOOD TRIPOD, BUT TOO EXPENSIVE WHEN TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE COST OF BUYING AN EXTRA HEAD ETC, WOULD PREFER THE SLIK 780DX!
