At last an Expresscard Compact Flash reader that works!
This device loads and unloads from my MaBook Pro without causing it to crash.
This is due to the architecture of this card being a USB device (as against IDE) so is natively hot swappable.
A great purchase don't waste your money on lesser items - it's taken me three goes to get one that works.

Now that CF cards capable of speeds up to 90 MB/s are available, I was hoping that we'd get card readers that could keep up with them. USB2 and Firewire 400 are too slow and I don't have FW800 on my laptop. So I decided to try an ExpressCard solution. There's no reason why that shouldn't be fast enough. So I was hugely disappointed when I found that this thing was almost half the speed of my Lexar UDMA USB reader (30 MB/s). A paltry 18 MB/s was its top speed. During installation Windows installs USB drivers for it - so it's not surprising it's slow. So buy this if you want a compact solution - but only if you have loads of time to wait for it.

I purchased this card reader as an alternative to carrying a USB card reader + lead etc when working on location as a photographer, hoping that it would make the whole download process more tidy: i.e. card reader stays in laptop slot so acts effectively as a built in card reader. Unfortunately the card reader itself requires some considerable coaxing to make a connection with the computer and is unstable to the point of having to make sure you don't breathe too hard in its vicinity for fear of loosing its connection. I've tried this reader in three separate machines all with the same result. I'd also hoped that maybe with use the problem would subside, however this hasn't been the case after several weeks use. In short a nice idea and potentially much more convenient than a separate card reader and lead etc, but in practice, so far at least, less than satisfactory.

This was bought to replace my old PCMCIA card which did not fit my new Dell laptop, It was good value and provides nice quick transfer of images from 4Gb cards.
Arrived promptly.

Prior to purchasing this item, I'd only used USB2 CF card readers. I have to say, this reader does seem to be a bit faster than my previous USB2 one. No need for drivers in OSX - it was detected and mounted automatically.
