 "Disappointing." 2010-06-24
By Tan1963
I was really keen to do some small product shots and a light cube seemed the obvious choice. Prior to ordering this tent I was using some white card as a backdrop. Sadly like the other reviewers I found a number of problems with this product.

Product damaged so I had to return it for replacement.

A hell of a job getting it back in the bag.

Back cloths heavily creased and I still haven't got them all out.

You need a lot more lighting than recommended.

To be honest I have gone back to using the white card for the moment. Not ideal but far better than this poorly manufactured product. I have decided to save my cash to buy a small constant lighting kit like the Photosel and a Photosel back drop. More money I know but it seems to get good reviews so fingers crossed.

 "Totally underhand company" 2010-04-25
By Miss E (UK)

This is a review I wrote for this exact product sold by this company [Ex-pro] which has not been removed per say but moved, as apparently they don't sell this product anymore. If fact it would seem they don't sell ANY of the products that have been negatively reviewed. This seems to be a new scam to get rid of reviews that don't give good ratings. They re-upload the product or slightly edit the description.

"Product was received damaged. The seams were ripped on the actual tent and on the bag it comes in. Another issue is this product is clearly not as described it states 24 x 24" on Amazon and on the invoice but on the product itself it is labelled 23 x 23". There is also the matter that the package was marked with an orange label "DO NOT FLY", I was not made aware that I was not dealing with a UK based company, only a PO BOX address."

By the way, yes, I did complain, yes, I did try to get my money back, they said they didn't receive the damaged product back. In short, they didn't give a monkeys, so not only did they take my cash they properly sold the damaged product on to some other chump. I have made an officially complaint to Amazon and Trading Standards about this company. Maybe the only way to get a company like this to take any notice is to call in the Tax man! I no longer deal with 3rd party sellers on this site.

"Great cube - but you'll need good lighting too" 2009-08-07
By Keep Smiling! (Hertfordshire UK)
This product should help to create better quality photographs of goods for sale, at least for close-ups and if the goods are small enough to fit inside the tent without the edges of the backdrop being visible.

Those unfamiliar with these things should be aware that the cube is made up of an ultra-springy metal frame covered in white fabric. This leads me to have some reservations about the little black bag in which it arrives - it should carry a safety warning! Intriguingly, the bag is only a fraction of the size of the flattened cube. When I unzipped it and removed the tent, the cube immediately leapt into action - frightening the hell out of my missus and almost decapitating the cat!

What's more, all attempts to refold the cube to make it fit back into the bag proved in vain. Obviously, I'm not alone in this as, when I enquired, the supplier sent me a link to some folding instructions. I'm not sure why these weren't included with the tent in the first place - but, even with them, folding it up still defeats me nine times out of ten. You can, of course, leave the tent out of its bag, providing you store it somewhere clean and don't mind it taking up a bit more space. Indeed, unless you're a contortionist or are happy to be smacked in the face when you accidentally let go of one bit of the frame as you try to fold it down while reading the instructions, it might be a wise precaution to simply throw away the bag!

The included coloured backdrops were tightly folded, and were all badly creased as a result. They seem to be made of nylon, and ironing on the appropriate low heat failed to rectify the problem - the crease lines were still clearly visible even under illumination. Using a thick cloth and a steam-iron on a higher heat setting eventually did the trick. Again, some instructions with the kit would have been helpful. To store them, roll them up, rather than folding, to save the nasty creases reappearing.

One final word of warning: You'll need some good daylight lamps to use this - or any other - light cube/tent. The lighting kit offered as part of the setup - Ex-Pro Photo Professional Mini Day Light Set Mini Lighting kit for Photo Tents for White back photography with stands, True Day Light GU10C bulbs included to give clean white daylight. 240v, Mini Light Kit suitable for 30cm, 40cm Tents, Cubes or Desk To... - was sold to me as suitable for the 60cm tent - although I note that they have changed their description since, excluding the 60cm tent! These tiny lights are useless for this size cube and I would go so far as to say they are useless for any size cube! They simply lack any oomph, they get dangerously hot and they're unstable on their tiny, tinny tripod legs. Instead, I've bought two 32W (160W equivalent)/5000k near-daylight/energy-saving Photo-Light bulbs with Elephant Tops and put them into some old professional photostands. They work an absolute treat. Actually, as these bulbs also stay as cool as cucumbers and have a 5000-hour life, you could easily use them in desk lamps with no need to keep switching them on and off during a photo session. Plus, of course, you'll be saving the planet and some cash because of their ultra-low power consumption!
