 "Card Reader" 2010-04-29

Nice little card reader. Works fine, comes with choice of front panels to match your system. Might have been improved by an extra USB port, but it does the job amicably.

"actually a "Sweex" unit but twice the price." 2010-04-13
By Mr. D. Wilson (England. UK)
A I've said in the title. look for the "Sweex" internal card reader. it is the "Exact" same unit, but half the price of the Akasa one.

either way both great items simple to install and work a treat. But dont get ripped of by buying the branded ones.

 "Almost perfect" 2010-01-01
By pluraldave
Easy to (physically) install, works out of the box on both Windows and Linux. Full size cards fit snugly into their respective slots - no issues with CF cards as previously reported but Mini-SD cards don't seem to work. The light comes on to signify the reader has detected the card but the OS is none the wiser. Pretty much all mini/micro cards come with adapters so it's no real issue to pop it into the adapter and then the card reader but it loses it that 5th star.

 "reliable product" 2009-12-10

When I was ordering this product I was concerned whether this floppy disk drive would be usable without any operating system installed on my computer. Fortunatelly the device appears in the BIOS so it was possible to provide sata hard drive drivers for the XP during the installation by using this device.

So If you want to install Windows XP on a sata hard drive this device would be just perfect for that purpose.

Product fits into a 3.5 inch bay but can fit into an adaptor and then fit into a CD slot. I regularly use this product for SD and Sony PSP MS Pro gaming cards and so far have not had a problem with insertion, reading, writing or removal.

The devive has a prewired USB block that conects to the motherboard with a 0.5cm thick grey cable of about 40cm long which is ample for most cases. The advantage of this is rapid installation. The unit is held in the bay with metal screws that tighten into a metal chasis. There is also a single USB slot underneath which are status indicator lights. I feel they emit enough light for their purpose. After installing the problem on Windows Vista it was recognised and it also works in dual boot with XP Home and Windows 2000 SP4. Some online drivers may be required for Windows 98 (but aren't they always!)

It is also capable of being mounted on its side such as the old floppy drives on either desktop units or media cases.
